DHSC issues warnings over out-of-stock medicines

The Department of Health and Social Care has warned pharmacies that Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) 600mg tablets are out of stock until mid-July while 300mg tablets will run out towards the end of this month until the same time.

However, generic oxcarbazepine 300mg and 600mg tablets are still available and the DHSC said they “will be able to support increased demand.”

Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) 150mg tablets, generic oxcarbazepine 150mg tablets and Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) 60mg/ml oral suspension are also available but “cannot support the increase in demand.” The notification was published on Community Pharmacy England’s website.

Meanwhile, the DHSC also said clomifene (Clomid) 50mg tablets manufactured by Sanofi are out of stock until the week beginning September 18. The product, however, is available in generic form from Wockhardt “who are able to partially uplift supplies until end of July 2023.”

The DHSC said Orifarm and Target Healthcare can source unlicensed clomifene 50mg tablets, although it cautioned that “lead times vary.”
